ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?: Lizzo & Cardi Collected All the Gossip from Their Haters & Responded with the Perfect Summer Smash – “Rumors” (VIDEO)

I’m about to just start responding to all the haters with “ALL THE RUMORS ARE TRUE, YEAH.” Lizzo and Cardi B are constant targets of rumors and it seems they’ve kept a tally of quite a few of the claims their detractors make and turned it all into the perfect clapback feel good anthem that we all needed.

The rumors are true: Lizzo and Cardi B have arrived with a strong contender for song of the summer, or at least the summer we were supposed to have pre-Delta. Lizzo has been on a monumental rise over the last two years and she hadn’t given fans a new effort in some time. Many believed that “Rumors” would find Lizzo performing alone, but she revealed that the one and only Cardi B would join in on the fun… and fun it is, indeed.

“Rumors” directly addresses the speculation that the ladies are regularly tacked with including gossip about their personal and professional lives. The friends take aim at the naysayers, trolls, an closeted fans who often find themselves in both Lizzo and Cardi’s mentions, but the message is clear, they’re far too comfortable enjoying the successes of their labor than to let any of that negative enery from their critic stop their show.

The accompanying music video was directed by Tanu Muino who also directed Bardi’s stunning “Up” clip earlier this year and the visuals definitely don’t disappoint here either with many pointing out how it’s reminscent of Disney’s 1997 film ‘Hercules.’ The Greek mythology-inspired video sees Lizzo draped in gold and surrounded by her very own Muses (a nod to the animated classic), while a very pregnant and glowing Cardi raps from a throne shaped like a penis while adding up the rumors and receipts. Cardi has undeniably set a standard for music videos that this one certainly makes a worthy addition to.

“Rumors” is basically exactly what you’d expect from the Grammy-winning, chart-topping duo that is Lizzo and Cardi B. It’s bold, in your face, catchy, and full of captions that we’ll see all over social media the next few weeks. Just as these two were goddesses on their thrown in the video, I see them sitting at the top of the charts with this one easily.

Quotable Lyrics:
Y’all be runnin’ with fake news, yeah
Cardi ain’t poppin’, no, that’s a machine (Huh?)
Nobody listen, they buyin’ them streams (Hmm)
They even post it on blogs overseas
And lie in a language I can’t even read
The fuck do this mean?
