ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?: Dream Doll Puts a Fresh Twist On A Familiar Sound Along with French Montana On – “Ice Cream Dream” (LISTEN)

When Dream said “you ever bet against Dream, that’s your loss,” she never lied. With this track she delivers yet another solid track that showcases why she’s definitely one to watch in terms of rising women in hip hop.

Just in time for the summer DreamDoll dropped off a sweet treat this past weekend with “Ice Cream Dream” featuring French Montana. Together, the two New York-raised rappers deliver a hard hitter where they reimagine the classic 1995 track “Ice Cream” by Raekwon featuring Ghostface Killah, Method Man, and Cappadonna.

Incorporating both the melody and beat from the 90s throwback , Dream and French take turns spitting going back and forth at one another. In her verse, Dream throws out several ice cream flavors and additives in a seductive way. “You know vanilla always hit the spot. Keep it a G, it ain’t easy tryna get me hot. Red bundles like a cherry sitting on the top.” She went on to talk sensuously about other ice cream related things like relating Puerto Ricans to the butter pecan flavor, caramel getting sticky, and holding a cone until it leaks…I see what you did there, girl!

‘Ice Cream Dream’ is the latest record to be lifted off Dream’s first major label project following her previous single “You Know My Body” which also had a throwback but still current vibe, and if this is the sound that project is shooting for, we definitely have a summer of bops to look forward to. Take a listen to the track below and let us know what you think. ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?
