ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?: After a Week Filled with Drama Nicki Minaj Drops Her Latest Single “Yikes” (LISTEN)

You can always tell when Minaj is prepping for new music because that’s when the drama starts.

After teasing the song earlier this week and then sharing that it wouldn’t be her next single, Nicki Minaj has lifted the veil on her retirement and returned with new music. “Yikes” has stirred up controversy over the last few days after the “Chun-Li” rapper shared a late-night snippet of the track on Instagram.

The song features a typical boastful chorus from Minaj in which she raps, “You a clown you do it for likes.” Interestingly, that’s the same thing she said during her intense and personal quarrel with Meek Mill on social media on Wednesday (Feb. 5). Another lyric on the track that has raised eyebrows is the line where she references Civil Right activist Rosa Parks in a not so flattering manner. “Hella bands, pull up, stashed up, super facts up/All you bitches Rosa Parks, uh-oh, get your ass up,” she spits.

Nicki has been criticized in the past for spending more time appealing to the pop music masses, but it seems that the emcee is attempting to get back to the smack-talking rhymes that her fans reference from early in her career. It seems like a pretty solid track, however, ‘Yikes’ seems more like a good idea in the beginning that Minaj later lost her way on and just filled in the rest to get it done. Nicki herself probably recognizes the song isn’t absolute perfection as she has already labeled it a buzz track, nothing that her actual single with a video will come later. Mrs. Petty is currently working on her forthcoming project that she’s kept under wraps, but we’re sure that as time rolls on, she’ll share details of what’s to come..and we’ll see more drama start. Check out “Yikes” below and let us know what you think. ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?
