Honestly, I understand where Flo Milli is coming from.. two things can be true. It is definitely true that sometimes talented artists get overshadowed by what’s deemed as more “marketable.” However, I can only imagine how frustrating it is to consistently be used for that example.. and it’s important to remember in order to see the artists that you’d like to see truly be pushed receive that, you have to actually support them, consistently.
Let’s start here, Flo Milli is a talented artist who has been putting out some dope tracks and projects for a while now. Unfortunately, people love to compare women in the music industry (especially hip hop) to one another as if there can only be one at a time. Consequently, Flo Milli has not been able to escape these comparisons as her career seems to always gets put under the microscope in comparison to what some may feel is more “success.”
This is especially true now that Ice Spice is out on the scene. There is clearly an audience that absolutely adores Ice Spice. However, others feel like the hype is unwarranted. To be fair, Flo Milli’s art is much more lyrical than Ice Spice’s. This has subsequently led to people taking to social media, saying Flo should be much more popular than Spice. Flo Milli, on the other hand, wants this all to stop immediately. While taking to Twitter, she urged her fans to stop with the unnecessary comparisons.
i wish yall would stop with this tired ass narrative yall love to push about my career

and stop mentioning me while trying to degrade another artist its WEIRDDD

“I wish yall would stop with this tired ass narrative yall love to push about my career,” she wrote. “And stop mentioning me while trying to degrade another artist its WEIRDDD. im doing great I went from being broke to traveling the world with my talent and im only 23.. pls RELAX.” Overall, this is a great mentality to have. Flo Milli wants it to be crystal clear that she is not about putting other people down. Moreover, she is objectively correct. She has accomplished more than others could ever dream of. Ice Spice is thriving as well, and they should be able to co-exist without people making it an issue.
While it’s okay to have opinions and preferences when it comes to music, it’s also understandable how taxing that may be on the artists mental. Fans are too quick to turn things into a competition these days. This is especially true when you factor in social media, which often ruins perceptions. What’s your take on this whole thing? Do you agree with Flo Milli that the comparisons should stop or are you standing ten toes down that she deserves more?
I hate how y’all keep bringing up Flo Milli when talking about Ice Spice. Where were you guys when she needed y’all the most? pic.twitter.com/uAFEiPKNr3
