GIRL WHAT?: The Beautiful Halle Berry Answers the Question on All of Our Minds: “What the HELL Was that On Her Head” At the 2017 Academy Awards?

There is likely not a person on the planet who doesn’t love Halle Berry in her signature pixie hair do.

So when the Academy Award-winning actress hit the runway at the Oscars on Sunday night, Berry, who wore a sleek, metallic Versace gown, caught many off guard with her voluminous, curly lopsided hairdo.

Let’s just say it got mixed reviews in social media.

But Berry said the look was a celebration.

“I have always marched to the beat to my own drum, and I think this red-carpet look encapsulates that,” Berry, who wore Atelier Versace for the main event, told Vogue. “The dress is glamorous with a sense of romance that made me feel feminine and fresh. With this look, I celebrate my natural hair by allowing it to be wild and free.”

Her hairstylist, Castillo, said this in a release:

“It was a joint process, that took around two weeks to decide on. Halle’s been wearing her hair natural lately and we really wanted to create a style that embodied her whimsical spirit. She was blown away with the finished look, she said she felt absolutely amazing.”

He called the look an “asymmetrical Afro” and offered the steps of how he achieved the look:

1. “I started with MOP mixed greens shampoo and conditioner to moisturize the hair.”

2. On damp hair, I added the lemongrass whip to the roots for lift and added volume, then applied the MOP c-curl defining cream to midshaft through the ends.

3.Next, with the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i Hair Dryer and SoftTouch 2 Diffuser I diffused sections of the hair.

4.As soon as the hair was completely dry I used the T3 Whirl Trio Curling Iron to create different sized curls to clean up the look.

5. Last, I sealed the entire look in with the MOP c-system hairspray.

Here’s my two cents:

Halle is gorgeous no matter how she styles her hair, but this look was far too overpowering for her petite face and the long Versace gown. When she appears in the short pixie cut, that’s ideal Halle, for me.
