Wendy Williams has reportedly demanded that Wells Fargo unfreeze her accounts as the bank suspects she could be a victim of “financial exploitation, dementia, or undue influence.” The 57-year-old TV personality has been absent from her eponymous daytime talk show since the last season concluded in July 2021. However, she is now asking the court for an emergency order requiring Wells Fargo to allow her to operate her accounts with them. The court filing asserts that Wells Fargo is in “possession of several million dollars worth of funds” she’s entitled to but has denied her access for more than two weeks. Williams’s attorney alleged that her former financial advisor told the bank she’s of “unsound mind” and that it has since denied access to her accounts and statements.
According to the petition, obtained by the folks over at The Sun, Wells Fargo has justified freezing Williams’s accounts by saying it has the authority under various client agreements to “‘pause or reject instructions for a proposed transaction,’ pending judicial or administrative remedies, should they suspect financial exploitation, dementia, or undue influence.”
Now, Williams’s legal team has alleged that the bank has overreached its authorities because she has not proposed any transaction that grants the bank the discretion to pause or reject access to her accounts. She is seeking court orders that would allow her “access to her financial accounts, assets, and statements” while her dispute with Wells Fargo is resolved in arbitration. The petition declared that the bank has breached its fiduciary duty and as a result, the host is suffering “imminent and irreparable financial damage.” Williams’s team is demanding the bank give access to her “agents, members, officers, employees, representatives and anyone else acting on Respondent’s behalf” within 48 hours.
It’s worth noting that the popular TV presenter has been battling a health crisis for some time. According to sources, she isn’t the witty, sharp host of ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ she once was as she fights multiple health maladies. “The spark is gone,” an insider told The Sun. “That Wendy, who for ten years had that spark in her eyes, that cheeky grin and that little wink is not the same now.” According to the source, some days are better than others for the daytime talk show diva. “She’s not always functioning like she used to be. She has days where she needs help eating, getting out of bed, and getting dressed,” they continued. “Sometimes she goes out in a robe and without shoes on – the old Wendy would never have allowed herself to be seen out like that.”
What’s more? The source also claimed Williams doesn’t always recognize people whom she’s known or worked with for years. “There are people who Wendy knows, who have worked closely with her, and there are days that she has no idea who they are,” the source added. Meanwhile, a second source told The Sun that fans shouldn’t expect a video response from the host anytime soon. “She really can’t do a video. She’s been having a hard time holding a conversation,” they said. According to the insider, Williams was struggling with her memory while she was on the show too, before things appeared to get worse. “She was forgetting things on the show a lot- information on stories, celebrities’ names,” the source explained. “That’s why she would lean on producers, to help feed her information.”
Wendy seems to really be going through it and I honestly hope that she overcomes all of this and can find herself back on top as the queen of daytime talk.
