You never really know what’s going on behind closed doors.
Back in September, fans were shocked when rumors that Iman Shumpert cheated on his partner of ten years, Teyana Taylor. Shortly after, the musician and actress took to Instagram to confirm that the two went through a break-up, but clarified that the two had actually separated some time ago, that this wasn’t due to any spats of infidelity, and that they still remain the best of friends. Now, the latest bit of news coming across our desks lets us know that Teyana was simply trying to keep things private and extend Iman some grace.
According to TMZ, the two weren’t simply separated… Teyana actually filed for divorce. According to legal docs, Teyana filed way back in January… more than 8 months before they announced news of their separation was made public. In the docs, Teyana details the demise of their marriage and labels Iman a “narcissist” while accusing of being jealous about her fame and feeling insecure about being good enough for her, despite the fact he was earning way more playing basketball than she could ever dream of making in music.
She says that Shumpert was prone to “treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage,” claiming that she turned down several opportunities because Iman “did not want her to work.” But she says when she stopped working after giving birth, Iman complained about her not making money.
Teyana claims that Iman has been involved in many cheating scandals, arrests, and more and that she tried to be there for him through thick and thin but says he “reacted with further cruel treatment and selfishness.” After she secretly filed for divorce, she says Iman even insisted on them getting back together only to be inconsistent and become involved in another cheating scandal, which she says was embarrassing and humiliating.
She further explains Iman left their family home in October and hasn’t spent significant time with their 2 children since then. She’s asking for temporary and permanent primary physical custody, plus joint legal custody and child support.
