Megan has been through more than most could handle these last few years and I truly did wonder how and if she was going to come back and be able to put it all into her music.. and she did. I don’t think she was focused on a hit or who could ‘vibe’ to this one, she was being vulnerable and just wanted to get things off her chest. I respect that.
Megan Thee Stallion has once again taken the music world by storm with the release of new single, “Cobra.” Just before it’s release, she expressed her excitement for fans to hear the track, making it clear that she had something unique. She teased them, stating, “Y’all are not gonna be able to guess what it sounds like, so stop trying lol.” This statement alone ignited curiosity as it hinted at a possible new and unexpected sonic direction. Now that the song is out, it’s definitely not what many were expected, but in a refreshing way as she dropped a song with some subject matter that actually surprised quite a few people.
Produced by Bankroll Got It, the song incorporates different elements of hip-hop and even rock-n-roll guitar. What makes “Cobra” even more special is Megan’s personal involvement in the production process. Meg has always been known for her lyrical delivery and commanding presence, but her role in helping produce a song takes her artistry to a whole new level, especially with such a personal message.
Throughout the track, there were plenty of bars about her mental health. For instance, she talks about wanting to slit her wrists and how people profited off of her despite her pain. It was all deeply personal and a far cry from the subject matter of her previous works. Furthermore, she dropped a personal bombshell on the record. At one point, she seemingly hints at the fact that she was cheated on by Pardison Fontaine as she mentions she caught her man in the bed getting that gawk gawk 3000 where she sleeps.
Do I think ‘Cobra’ will smash? Maybe not.. but I think it’s a necessary step for Megan as not only an artist but a growing woman and I’m proud of her putting this out there. Take a look at the video and let us know your thoughts. ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?
