You have to admire anyone who’s confident in themselves but I’d be a liar if I said I’ve ever thought about NeNe in the same sentence as any Kim other than Zolciak.
NeNe Leakes says she could have been on the same level as Kim Kardashian had her career not been derailed. The RHOA album explained her stance during part two of her convo with Carlos King. When asked if she believed she should have been “bigger” than her fellow reality television star, Leakes replied, “Absolutely. If not bigger, right there with her.”
“I felt like they pushed Kim, and they didn’t push me. Kim came on after me, and they opened up every door and every opportunity for her,” she explained. She continues to share that she and Kardashian were even placed in the same rooms several times, with Leakes even attending her baby shower when she was pregnant with North West. Despite rubbing elbows with the wealthy family and Kanye West, Leakes says the influencer was propelled into the limelight while she was left stagnant, despite her contributions to the nonscripted TV genre. Unfortunately, Leakes believes this was done purposefully. In one incident, she says both she and Kim had Shoe Dazzle deals, yet, only Kim’s line was heavily promoted.
Another point of contention for Leakes was the fact that in the early seasons of RHOA, the Housewives were not allowed to push their business endeavors. Elsewhere on “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” much of their storylines had to do with the launch of their companies.
Now, we have to be real and note the obvious that unfortunately black women in the entertainment industry get the short end of the stick, so there is definitely some truth to some of what NeNe is saying. However, I think it also boils down to moves as well. Much of Kim’s notoriety also came from her dating life, she was a consistent top tabloid topic which was never the case for NeNe who despite some struggles with her husband, maintained a pretty solid personal life.
I think that NeNe is undeniably one of the most iconic faces to ever touch reality television and that’s something that she should be proud of. Period. Take a look at the clip for yourself and let us know your thoughts.
