The summer may have just received an extension because Bardi and Meg just brought the heat.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion once showed us how great of a duo they are on their massive hit “WAP.” Overall, this track was a massive cultural event. People were losing their minds over the track and the visuals that accompanied it. Although the reactions were polarizing, Cardi and Meg remained firm on the idea that this song was “the one”.. and they were right. It still remains culturally relevant, and when the two announced another collaboration, you can just imagine how excited people got.
Now, while people were extremely excited they also assumed these ladies were looking to duplicate their formula from their previous collaboration.. but boy were they wrong. The new track is called “Bongos,” and while ‘WAP’ turned out to be a cultural smash.. “Bongos” may have turned things up a notch. Focusing less on the sexual side, ‘Bongos’ still has some of those elements but is much more fun and appealing to the masses. With a Brazilian Funk driven beat that immediately commands your attention and makes you want to move along with it, Cardi and Megan deliver braggadocios bars and confident flows making it not only a solid track that still appeals to hip hop fans but also a universal smash that doesn’t have to stay committed to one genre.
Cardi has solidified a reputation for herself as a true innovator and “that girl” when it comes to making music videos for her songs, and this may be a controversial statement based on the past material.. but for me, ‘Bongos’ is her best one yet. The music video packs bursts of opulence as the visual sees the rappers dropping verses from a mind-bending Pucci-themed living room to the beach while flanked by dancers draped in a spectrum of colors. “This pussy tight like a nun/Better chew it up like it’s gum/Then wipe your mouth when you done,” Cardi B delivers in the opening before handing if off to Megan, who delivers as well.
“This ass sit like a stallion, all these wannabes my lil’ ponies/These hoes camped out in the comments, always talkin’ like they know me,” before declaring, “Eat whoever in my way, Ms. Pacman, Megan raps.
Overall, ‘Bongos’ is something that both Cardi and her fans should be very proud of. It’s a prime example of her growth as an artist and making music she believes in vs just chasing the sounds that are currently going viral on social media. I think this is going to be huge and set a brand new standard that others will be running to follow. Take a listen and let us know your verdict. ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?
