Monica teams up with Lil Baby directly following her Verzuz battle against Brandy, releasing her new The Neptunes-produced single “Trenches.”
Last night, R&B superstar Monica faced off against Brandy in perhaps the most highly-anticipated Verzuz challenge, since the competition’s inception, and she’s building momentum with the release of some new music.
Goonica has released her brand new single “Trenches” which features Lil Baby and was produced by The Neptunes. The song is just over three-and-a-half minutes long, starting and ending with verses from Lil Baby. The middle portions are handled by Monica, who sings smoothly about losing someone to the streets.
Taking to Instagram, Monica reflected on her long-awaited collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. “For MANY years I’ve dreamed of working with The Neptune’s,” she said. “Admiring their ability to remain current yet timeless as well as their bond & brotherhood because loyalty is fleeting in this business !!”
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Monica’s debut album Miss Thang. She is now readying her 9th studio album also titled Trenches, her first since 2005’s Code Red, which will mark a return to her roots.
“Smiling from the inside out !!!! I can’t wait for y’all to hear my music !!!” said Monica. “It may be more truth than some can handle LOL… The old me definitely payed the booth a visit!!”
