PRAYERS UP: Television & Radio Icon Wendy Williams Has Been Diagnosed with Dementia & Aphasia

I’ve been one of those delusional people holding onto the idea that we’d see Wendy back in that purple chair some day… but from the sound of things we just need to pray that she gets herself in a good place.

The last few years have been a rollercoaster ride not just for Wendy Williams’ but also her fans who have been looking on for possible updates on “how she doing?” We’ve heard things here and there, some true while others weren’t, but the latest update regarding the media icon is definitely a bit grim and sad to hear. Reps for the former talk show host hAVE revealed that she’s been officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.

Aphasia is a condition that affects language and communication abilities. Frontotemporal dementia is aprogressive disorder impacting behavior and cognitive functions.

“Wendy would not have received confirmation of these diagnoses were it not for the diligence of her current care team, who she chose, and the extraordinary work of the specialists at Weill Cornell Medicine,” according to a press release from Williams’ team. “Receiving a diagnosis has enabled Wendy to receive the medical care she requires.”

“The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances,” the statement continued. “Unfortunately, many individuals diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia face stigma and misunderstanding, particularly when they begin to exhibit behavioral changes but have not yet received a diagnosis.”

“Wendy is still able to do many things for herself,” it continues. “Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed. She is appreciative of the many kind thoughts and good wishes being sent her way.”

A documentary about Williams’ life is set to premiere on Lifetime over two nights, February 24 and 25. It was filmed over the two years following Williams’ exit from The Wendy Williams Show in 2021 and captures Williams’ struggles after she was placed under a financial guardianship and her hit talk show was unexpectedly canceled. Our hearts and prayers definitely go out to Wendy and I pray that she continues to receive the proper care to where she’s at least able to function and maintain at a healthy place.
