DEBATABLE DEBATES: Wendy Williams Doesn’t Think Lil Kim Reached The Same Level As Nicki Minaj, What Say You?
Per usual, Wendy Williams is all for sharing her opinion on all the happenings in the world of entertainment. Her latest stance is having Nicki Minaj’s back after the rapper said she re-introduced the female rapper to mainstream music. Nicki went in detail to XXL saying “my role in hip-hop has been super unique because when my first album came out, there had been so much time where there wasn’t a female rap album out that went platinum.”
During Wendy’s talk show yesterday morning, she shared the hot topic with her viewers, telling them “Nicki Minaj is crediting herself for making female rap mainstream.” Right away the crowd gave a gasp, clearly not agreeing with the comment.
“Well now, haters, you might not like her, but she said ‘mainstream,’ as in, you go into Kmart and there’s her clothing, you turn on pop music stations and there’s her music. Lil Kim had her moment, but by the time she went to jail, she just couldn’t get it back together afterwards,” Wendy said. “Nicki does say in XXLmagazine that, ‘There wasn’t a big female rap presence right before I got in…My role was reintroducing the female rapper to pop culture.’ I agree! I don’t know if she should’ve said it herself…” Watch the clip below.
After Nicki’s interview went public lots of people were quick to throw a few jabs at her alluding to her being full of herself or thinking she’s better than lots of other female rappers such as Queen Latifah and Eve. She posted a video with the original footage of her interview on Instagram so no one could “remix” her words. Her caption was lengthy since she dropped facts on the past successes of female rappers and asked her fans to check the facts. She ended her rant with, “…love you guys for holding me down but what’s true is true & whats not is just simply not.” Check out Wendy’s initial comments and Nicki’s response below. Do you agree with Wendy?
