WE LOVE TO SEE IT: Missy Elliott Will Officially Be the First Female Rapper to Be Inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Missy isn’t just one of the most iconic and recognizable female rappers in history, she’s contributed so much to music and the culture in general, that I can’t think of a better person to usher this in for the ladies.

Missy Elliott just added another notch to her long list of well deserved accolades. Today, the music icon not only became one of seven music figures announced as having been voted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, but this also makes her the first female hip hop artist to receive this honor.

Moreover, Missy is the only artist in this group to have made it into the hall in her FIRST year of eligibility, being 25 years out from her first album, ‘Supa Dupa Fly.’ “Missy Elliott got in first ballot, just like Eminem got in first ballot last year and Jay-Z the year before,” that the general ballot voted Kate in this year,” John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame said in a statement. “So if there’s a throughline we’re seeing, it shows the power of hip-hop music culture now, as if we didn’t know it already, as far as how quickly these artists are being recognized on the first ballot.”

Missy is the 11th rapper to be inducted overall following an impressive list of MC’s such as Eminem, Jay-Z, Run-DMC, Biggie Smalls, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, N.W.A., Tupac, Public Enemy, and Grandmaster Flash And The Furious Five. She reacted to the news by stating she was “humble and grateful” and that she hopes this paves the way for other female rappers.

“It’s times I have gotten on line & seen your irrelevant your a flop your washed up & it would crush me at times🥺BUT God you made me STRONG I kept going & you allowed my decades of WORK to SPEAK 4 itself🙏🏾 I am HUMBLED thank you all my Supporters💜 I LOVE YOU💜”

The icons will officially be anointed as rock ‘n’ roll royalty on Nov. 3, it will be Missy alongside Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, the Spinners, and Willie Nelson. Take a look at Missy’s humble response below. Can we all agree this is well deserved and well overdue?
