SHE’S WORTH IT, LET HER WORK IT: Missy Elliott To Be Honored At Essence’s 2018 “Black Women In Music” Celebration

Essence Magazine has plans to crown Missy Elliott as the 2018 honouree at the Black Women In Music event. The celebration will be held on January 25th at New York City’s Highline Ballroom, just days before the 60th annual Grammy awards.

Missy’s recognition comes after years of being a prominent example of a successful female Black emcee who has excelled in all avenues of fashion, film, dance and music. Her creative mind has overflowed to the likes of Pharrell Williams and Timbaland that lead to even more record-breaking success as a songwriter and producer.

“The artistry of Missy Elliott cuts across generations—underscored by her vast creative accomplishments and contributions to the culture,” Vanessa De Luca, Essence Editor-in-Chief said. “So prolific is her work, she is an inspiration to women all over the world. Missy’s energetic presence is truly magnetic and we can’t wait to celebrate her as one of the artistic masterminds of our time.”

Since her 1997 debut album, Supa Dupa Fly, Missy continues to release bangin’ tracks and verses such her most recent features on Mary J. Blige’s “Glow Up,” Amine’s “RedMercedes” remix and her solo beat “I’m Better” from the top of the year.
