City Girls, Megan Thee Stallion, and DaBaby are a few artists that fans can’t believe are nominated for the kid-friendly award show.
Hip hop is taking over this year’s Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards as Chance The Rapper hosts and a number of artists like City Girls, DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, and Lizzo are nominated. The family-friendly award ceremony will take place at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. on March 22, and while it’s normal for the Kid’s Choice Awards to nominate non-children-related artists and content, this year’s nods seem to have confused social media.
The 2020 nominations are primarily tailored to kid-friendly content, but a few names have stuck out like sore thumbs. Megan Thee Stallion’s latest single is titled “B.I.T.C.H.” and the Houston rapper often talks about her sexual exploits. City Girls’ raunchy lyrics are laid out in almost every single one of their tracks, and DaBaby may be an international superstar but some people are calling out his lyrical content, as well. They’re all nominated in the Best New Artist category alongside Lewis Capaldi, Lil Nas X, and Lizzo.
Check out the full list of nominees below and a few surprised reactions. What are your thoughts? Is it really as controversial as people make it seem?
