BUT DOES SHE HAVE A POINT?: Azealia Banks is Threatening to Remove All of Her Music from Spotify Because They Included Her On Their ‘One Hit Wonder’ Playlist

With Spotify being undeniably one of the largest music streaming services these days, one would imagine that an artist would prefer to take advantage of the platform by having their music readily available on the service. However, ever controversial rapper Azealia Banks is threatening to have her entire music catalog stripped from the streaming giant if they do not meet one specific demand.

Banks’ material has been streamed over 200 million times on the platform but, apparently that doesn’t mean much to the rapper as she feels professionally offended by being included on a new playlist Spotify has released. The list in question is the app’s “One Hit Wonder Playlist,” which features nostalgic novelty songs of the past ala Vanilla Ice “Ice Ice Baby,” “Macarena” by Los Del Rio, “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton, and “What Would You Do?” by City High, just to name a few and give you an idea of where this is going.

Banks’ own breakout hit ‘212’ found it’s way on to the list which features 100 songs, and the rapper was not one bit happy about it. Almost immediately posting to her IG story, “Really about to just remove my music from Spotify all together. Waiting for them to make a pedophiles in music playlist and feature all the pedophiles they pump so hard!”

Offended by the likely unintentional jab, Banks posted the message above prompting fears from fans that her next projects ‘Fantasea II’ & ‘Business & Pleasure’ will suffer without the entity’s backing. Do you think Azealia is overreacting to being included on the list? To be fair, while Azealia has consistently released quality music since her debut with “212,” however none of it has seen chart success. As a matter of fact, ‘212’ didn’t see any success in the United States as it did not chart, especially compared to it’s run in the United Kingdom where it peaked at No. 12. Isn’t that essentially the makings of a one hit wonder? It’s not about how much music you’ve released (Hell, Vanilla Ice released more music) but about whether or not it’s an actual HIT.

What do you guys think? Was Spotify wrong for including Azealia on this list? or is Azealia overreacting as she’s being ego checked?
