If you were a little confused by the title of Tyler Perry’s latest film, don’t fret: you are far from alone.
Perry’s Acrimony has left a whole lot of people thinking, Huh? According to Page Six, so many people don’t know what “acrimony” means, it has become one of Merriam-Webster’s most searched words in March. Perry’s Acrimony, which stars Taraji P. Henson, is a psychological thriller that follows a woman, Henson, who decides to seek vengeance against her unfaithful husband.
How exactly did Perry come up with the title for this film? Surprisingly, the answer more or less revolves around Donald Trump.
He told Page Six, “I was watching CNN and they described our president as ‘acrimonious’ — so I looked it up. I wanted it to describe who Melinda [Henson] was, and when I found the word I knew it had to be the title of my movie.” Initially, Perry was going to call the film She’s Living My Life, but apparently, that was “too on the nose.”
The spike in dictionary-searches for the word came as a surprise to the filmmaker. “So now it’s educational,” he said. Tyler Perry’s Acrimony will be in theaters March 30. Another movie Perry will be working on, The List, will star Tiffany Haddish, who may or may not be getting catfished by a boyfriend in the film. The List is set to be hit theaters in November of 2018.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, Merriam-Webster defines acrimony as being “anger and bitterness; harsh or biting sharpness especially of words, manner, or feelings.”
