Damon Wayans Jr. set off fireworks of a different kind for the 4th of July. Wayans had Twitter had Twitter up in arms after he criticized the holiday.
“Happy white people proud of their racist ancestors day,” Wayans Tweeted.
“Just another example of Hollywood talking down to Americans. They hate this country & their fans. #FabricatedRacism sadly returns @wayansjr,” one critic replied.
Wayans didn’t back down, clapping back, “A joke some took too personally. So what. Jokes aren’t illegal.”
Another slammed the actor, whose father is comedian Damon Wayans, for nepotism, writing, “Enjoy what’s left of your already s—ty career that your dad created for you,” to which Wayans replied, “Thanks … will do.”
He later wrote to another poster, “It was a joke. But feel free to be offended by it.”
It seems as though you can’t even joke about the 4th of July and its racist founding fathers without people saying things like, “You should be appreciative that you’re here in the U.S.,” and as we can see Wayans Jr. found that out really quick. Were you offended by the joke?
