MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!: Donald Trump Grants Alice Johnson Clemency After Kim Kardashian Meeting

Kim Kardashian has dubbed the announcement the “best news ever!”

While many were quick to ridicule to meeting between Kim Kardashian and Donald Trump, it would appear that some good has come out of it after all. In case you missed it, Kim visited the White House last week in order to make the case for Alice Marie Johnson’s pardon; in 1997, Johnson was given a life sentence for cocaine possession and money laundering. After several non-violent prisoners with similar sentences were pardoned during the Obama administration, Johnson was ultimately left behind. The nature of her story spoke volumes to Kim Kardashian, who made it a personal mission of sorts to take a stand in her defense; like father, like daughter.

Today, it has been confirmed that Donald Trump has indeed found wisdom in the Kardashian tongue, granting clemency to Alice Marie Johnson. Now, the 63 year old grandmother will be released from prison in Aliceville, Alabama, with plans to reunite with her family.

In an interview with Mic, Kim spoke about what drew her to Johnson’s plight. “If you think about a decision that youโ€™ve made in your life and you get life without the possibility of parole for your first-time nonviolent offense, thereโ€™s just something so wrong with that,โ€ she says, before reflecting on the Trump meeting. “[Trump] really spent the time to listen to our case that we were making for Alice. He really understood, and I am very hopeful that this will turn out really positively.โ€

Looks like Kim Kardashian can sleep easy knowing she made a difference in a woman’s life. While the infamous nature of the parties involved will certainly tarnish the story, it stands to reason that a positive step was taken toward the betterment of the prison system. Hard to argue with that. From the sound of it, Kim will be getting even more involved in the criminal justice system. Credit where credit is due.
