New York University psychology professor Pascal Wallisch and NYU graduate Nicole Leal recently conducted a study to determine what kind of music resonates with psychopaths, according to The Washington Post.
Perhaps it’s Eminem’s penchant for violent lyrics and apathetic attitude, but it turns out, Shady’s 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” scored high on the psychopath test.
More than 190 NYU psychology students participated in the study and were given questions that determined various levels of psychopathy. The students were asked to listen to a variety of songs — from classical to current Billboard Hot 100 hits — and rated them on a seven-point scale.
Other songs that scored high on the psychopath test included Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” and Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean.” Songs that scored low on the test were Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing,” the country song Wayward Wind” and The Knack’s “My Sharona.”
Although the study hasn’t been published in a peer-reviewed journal, it was recently presented at the Society for Neuroscience meeting, which hosted over 30,000 people.
