DO IT FOR THE KIDS!: Chance The Rapper Gifts 300 Pairs Of Unreleased Jordan 11s To Chicago Youth

Chance the Rapper’s made improving the lives of Chicago youth a part of his mission statement. Whether it’s through his OpenMike events or donating money to help the arts in public schools, he’s been active in helping improve the lives of Chicago youth in whatever way he can through his position. During his most recent OpenMike event, the rapper gave the kids in attendance some early Christmas gifts.

During the most recent OpenMike event, Chance The Rapper teamed up with Nike to gift the kids in attendance with pairs of Jordan Retro 11s. The shoe itself cost $220 and won’t even be dropping until this Saturday. Chance and Nike came through with 300 pairs to give back to the kids.

Chance tweeted Tuesday morning about the event. OpenMike’s were started in honor of Chance’s mentor, Mike Hawkins. He passed away three years a go and this year, the event took place on the anniversary of his death.

“On the anniversary of the passing of my mentor Brother Mike, @OpenMikeChicago had one of it’s best nights yet. Thanks to @Korporate00 for speaking and thanks to @Jumpman23 for bringing 300 pair of unreleased 11s for the young creatives. Until next year… POWER TO THE PEOPLE…” he wrote on Twitter.

Aside from this move at the OpenMike event, Chance The Rapper went to Michele Clark High School in Chicago recently to announce a donation of $1M to his New Chance: Arts & Literature Fund program to help improve the public school system in the city.
