ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?: Doja Cat Drops Off the Perfect Romantic Anthem for Your Sneaky Links on “Agora Hills” (VIDEO)

The first few singles from Doja’s latest album got mixed reactions but her latest release seems to be tapping back into the sound fans know and love from her which may make it an easy win.

Today, Doja Cat finally dropped off her eagerly-anticipated fourth studio album, Scarlet. The LA native’s latest offering boasts zero features, and has certainly met fan expectations thus far. Just ahead of the release, Doja Cat also unveiled a new music video for her track “Agora Hills.” The video sees Doja continue to tap horror elements, while taking a far dreamier approach than other visuals from the album.

On the track Doja Cat croons over the complex feelings of wanting to publicize a love that must be kept private out of necessity, and whatever that necessity may be. Throughout the track, Doja expresses her love, and even mentions marriage over a smooth groove that should seem familiar as it samples Troop’s 1989 hit “All I Do Is Think of You.” Agora Hills” appears to be a misspelling of the Los Angeles suburb of Agoura Hills — Doja’s childhood neighbourhood.

The video leads with some fuzzy, found footage-feeling shots of the performer washing blood off of herself, reminiscent of an ’80s slasher film. Doja then recruits her girl gang to strut through a city in ruins, ultimately finding herself dropping off a few bars in a very valley girl cadence while in a girlish bedroom. The surreal visual pairs well with the mellow, atmospheric track, and fits right in with the rest of Scarlet.

‘Agora Hills’ is easily my favorite of Doja’s recent singles as the hook extremely addictive to the point where you’ll find yourself humming it for the rest of the day after one listen. It’s also a nice bridge between the material fans know from her and the apparent direction she’s looking to go in so I think this one will do great for her if pushed.

Take a look at the video for ‘Agora Hills’ below and let us know your thoughts. ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?
