ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?: Diddy Links with The City Girls & Fabolous to Put Their Bid in for ‘Song of the Summer’ on “Act Bad” (VIDEO)

It’s like I understand what this song was trying to do but it just doesn’t quite get there. ..

It’s that time of year, folks. Spring is being phased out as we’re heading into the summer months and this is where artists generally start feel good releasing bangers in hopes of possibly being deemed the song of the summer. Now that hip hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has confirmed his… situationship with Yung Miami of the City Girls (or ‘Shorty Wop’ as he likes to call her), It was only a matter of time before the City Girls and Diddy joined forces on a song or project of some sort. Recently, the two teased a new song called “Act Bad,” which is a reference to one of Yung Miami’s many quotables.

Additionally, it was made clear that the song would also feature Fabolous. This was a bit of a surprise, but not necessarily an unwelcome one. Since the announcement of the track, fans have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. Furthermore, they have been theorizing what this song may sound like, with Diddy himself even going as far as hyping it as the ‘song of the summer’.. but did it deliver?

“We all teamed up together to drop the song of the summer,” he said. “It’s gonna be an Act Bad summer.” According to Diddy, “acting bad” means embracing personal freedom, letting go, and “not giving a fuck.”

Overall, this track is made to be a club banger that you will probably hear quite a bit during any club outings over the next couple months. For me, it’s overall forgettable.. it’s like the makings of what’s supposed to be a bop are there, but it just never really went anywhere. The girls verses are decent enough especially compared to what we’ve seen from them in the past, but the hook is just repetitive…in an annoying more than catchy way.

In the official visual for “Act Bad,” directed by Kid Art, all eyes are on Diddy and his “special friend,” Yung Miami, as they can’t keep their eyes and hands off of each other. As the recording artists race down the Miami highway inexotic cars, endlessly party, and overly consuming Diddy’s DeLeón Tequila in, in an obvious bit of self-promotion.. as he should.
