HEY MY LOVES: Jada Pinkett Smith Backs Mo’Nique’s Boycott; Says She Has A Point About Underpaid “Non-White Women”

Last week, Academy Award-winning actress and comedian Monique Angela Hicks, better known as Mo’Nique, shared a video to Instagram asking her followers and fans to boycott Netflix. Mo’Nique stated how the streaming platform offered her “$500,000 last week to do a comedy special” when “Amy Schumer was offered $11 million, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock $20 million.”

Whether fans agree with her or not on the offering she received based on her comedic resume, Mo’Nique is only adding to the already talked about controversy in Hollywood – women getting lower salaries compared to men, that also effects black women.

Jada Pinkett Smith (who recently blasted the Golden Globes for snubbing Tiffany Haddish) sent out a tweet in support of Mo’Nique’s words. “You don’t have to like Mo’Nique’s approach,” she said. “You don’t have to agree with her boycott but don’t allow all of that to make you blind to the fact that non-white women and impoverished white women are underpaid, underrepresented and undervalued EVERYWHERE by EVERYONE.”

She added that as a community, we should be supporting the light Mo’Nique is “shining on this truth.”
