GET UP STAND UP: Beyoncé Voices Support for LGBT Students After Trump Transgender Order

Beyonce didn’t take an explicit stand against Donald Trump at the Grammys, where she won Best Urban Contemporary Album (“Lemonade”) and Best Music Video (“Formation”), but on February 23 she took to Facebook to stand up for LGBT youth after Trump eliminated federal guidelines supporting transgender students. She posted on her Facebook page, “LGBTQ students need to know we support them. Share your support to #protecttransyouth at glsen.org/100days & put #KindnessInAction GLSEN.”

Dr. Eliza Byard, executive director of GLSEN, said in a statement to the Huffington Post, “We are so thrilled that Beyonce is standing up for transgender youth by joining GLSEN’s 100 Days of Kindness Campaign at this very difficult time.”

Beyonce also stood up for children in her Grammy acceptance speech earlier this month, saying, “It’s important to me to show images to my children that reflect their beauty so they can grow up in a world where they look in the mirror — first through their own families, as well as the news, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the White House and the Grammys — and see themselves. And have no doubt that they’re beautiful, intelligent and capable. This is something I want for every child of every race.”
