DUH-DUH-DUH-DAMN!: Lil Mo Calls Queen Naija’s Soul Train Cypher Performance “Mediocre” – “She Should’ve Sat This One Out”

The soul cypher at this year’s Soul Train Awards was a highlight for those in attendance and watching from home. Past soul cypher singers included Chrisette Michele, Gerald Levert, K-Ci, Gladys Knight, Faith Evans, Fantasia, Ne-Yo, Tyrese, and Angie Stone. So this year’s crop of singers knew they had a lot to live up to.

For many, B.J. The Chicago Kid, Luke James, Kelly Price, and Queen Naija were a worthy quartet who proved their weight in melody. Lil Mo, however, took to Instagram to critique Queen Naija’s performance and wonder if she should’ve denied the opportunity.

“Where shall I begin? Okay, from what I can see Queen Naija is a very very pretty girl. My daughters love her music…I pray she beats the odds, does numbers and remains humble. As for this cypher, maybe the pregnancy is prohibiting singing from the pit. Maybe she should’ve war cried or just sat this one out until her seasoning is to its fullest savor. I really don’t know much about her besides what the blogs post but I believe she can reach her fullest vocal potential outside of its mediocrity if she stays around vocal bibles.”

Mo continued her assessment of the 23-year-old singer by stating Queen Naija lacked fervor. “Just assess the passion and let me know who made you feel a way after they sang.”

TSR Staff: Kyle Anfernee: @Kyle.Anfernee Listen, the music industry is like the movie “Mean Girls” because the newbies don’t seem to be getting warm welcomes from their fellow OG’s in the game. Queen Naija performed at the Soul Train Awards, and everyone seemed to be here for her performance except Lil Mo’. ___________________________________ She took to Instagram and shaded Queen Naija left and right! ___________________________________ “Where shall I begin. Ok here goes. From what I’ve seen #QueenNaija is a very, very pretty girl. My daughters love her music as she will be their future and when they look back this is who chosen to lead the millennials into what’s new and next in music. I pray she beats all odds. Does numbers and remains humble.” ___________________________________ And the shade begins, “As for this cypher, maybe the pregnancy is prohibiting singing from the bottom of her pit. Before finishing her lengthy post, Mo insisted that users should familiarize themselves with singer-songwriter Yebba Smith, who Mo declared “will sing half the world into a f**king ditch. She should’ve been up there with Kelly and them if we’re talking teams.”

Does Lil Mo have a valid point or no? What do you guys think?
