FOR THE CULTURE: Jay-Z’s Trayvon Martin Documentary Series To Debut At Tribeca Film Festival

Jay-Z’s expanded his talents into much more than film. His business acumen has helped him become the most wealthiest person in hip hop this year, beating out Diddy in the Forbes list for the first time since his inception. On top of all of that, he’s also ventured into film and more notably, documentaries. The rapper released a docuseries based on Kalief Browder’s life who committed suicide during his three year bid in Rikers Island. He’s also been working on a indepth documentary series based on Trayvon Martin’s death. That docuseries will be making its debut this spring.

Jay-Z’s docuseries on Trayvon Martin will be making its debut this spring at the Tribeca Film Festival, Entertainment Weekly reports. The first teaser to the six part series dropped at the tail end of July and was initially marketed to drop in July. Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story gives a “definitive look at one of the most talked-about, controversial events of the last decade.” Trayvon Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will also be in attendance and will speak to the audience after the screening. Jay-Z’s docuseries on Trayvon Martin was based on the book, Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin from his parents.

The documentary will make its debut on April 20th at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts in New York City.
