The remake of the Lion King has really built anticipation. For a lot of younger kids, it’ll be an exciting way to introduce them to one of Disney’s classic cartoon films from the past. For older cats, it’ll be interesting to hear modern day pop culture icons take on the roles of some of our favorite animated characters from our childhood. A main reason why the Lion King was so great in the first place was also because of the music featured in the film. Of course, we have to credit Sir Elton John’s contribution for that.
Elton John has reportedly signed off on a deal that’ll have him reworking some of the classic tunes he contributed to the original Lion King movie, according to New York Daily News. They say he’ll re-work classics such as “Circle of Life” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” for the live-action remake set to release for 2019 and potentially new music, as well. However, one of their sources have said that he’ll be working on some of these songs with Beyonce.
“The songs will be thread into the storyline. It is unthinkable when you have Beyoncé involved not to have her sing some of those iconic hits — and that means huge sales to a new generation. The deal is a huge one and will earn [Elton John] millions at many stages. Obviously he will get a one off licensing deal followed by a cut in royalties from all aspects of the work,” the source said.
They also say that Elton John will make as much as $13 million solely off of the upcoming “Lion King” film. Their sources say the licensing deal is worth $4 million, at the least. But they also say that will increase once album sales and royalties come in as well as the stage production of the film.
In addition to Beyonce, they also have some other big names attached to the remake including Donald Glover, John Oliver, Seth Rogan, Eric Andre and James Earl Jones, who will reprise his role as Mufasa. Hopefully, we get to hear Donald Glover’s influence on the soundtrack in some capacity.
