THE BIG O: Oprah Winfrey & Apple Sign Multi-Year Original Content Partnership Deal

Oprah and Apple are aligned.

Since Netflix took the entertainment industry by storm by producing a lengthy catalog of original content, nothing’s been the same. Other streaming services are now rushing to catch up, such as Hulu and Amazon Prime. Although there are several amazing series on other streaming networks, it’s hard to compete with Netflix, who has the entire millennial generation in the palm of their hands. Apple, not one to be outdone, is beginning to amass their own catalog of original content, and now Oprah has signed a deal with them to make that happen.

According to Variety, Apple and Oprah have a signed a multi-year content partnership. Under the new deal, Winfrey and Apple will produce shows that will be released as part of Apple’s original content catalog. The partnership is one of the first of similar agreements struck between Apple and content creators. Oprah is already a heavyweight in the entertainment industry, with her OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network partnership with Discovery Communications. The channel produced the hit show “Queen Sugar,” which has Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay as showrunner.

Apple has a few other original series up their sleeves as well. A reboot of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories, a true crime drama series called Are You Sleeping? starring Octavia Spencer, and an Emily Dickinson series starring Hailee Steinfeld are all in the works over at Apple as well.
