Artists are set to honor Aretha Franklin with tribute performances during an event hosted by Tyler Perry Perry. Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul will take place at the Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium on Sunday, January 13. The diva will be celebrated by a variety of entertainers but fans are throwing criticism at one particular star: SZA.
The TDE signee had taken some time off the label’s tour to rest her vocal cords following an injury. Despite this challenge, social media users have zero chills when it comes to pointing out how her vocal ability seems to have declined in the past year. The bashing has gotten worse because of SZA’s inclusion in the upcoming tribute event. Even people who are self-professed fans of the CTRL artist feel like her skills are simply not worthy for the Queen of Soul.
The following includes comments posted before and after the announcement, setting up the perfect opportunity for SZA to prove them all wrong. Check out some of the most ridiculous reactions below:

Alessia Cara, SZA are singing on the Aretha Franklin tribute? What made the Grammy's think these girls can sing an Aretha song when they can't even sing their own songs right. pic.twitter.com/q0v5HHxhlM
