You would think one would be responsible for your significant others happiness, right? Well according to Will Smith, absolutely not.
Will and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith have been married for 21 years and have two children together, Jaden and Willow.
The couple,have often spoken publicly about their relationship. Most recently, Will explained that he believes that it should not be a person’s responsibility to fulfill the happiness of another person. He says in a social media video that his wife, Jada, brought this revelation to him. He says,
“Whether or not a person is happy is deeply and totally and utterly out of your control.”
He also admits that one day he told his wife that he was officially done with trying to make her happy.
“I remember the day I retired. I literally said to Jada: That’s it. I retire. I retire from trying to make you happy.”
He then continued to explain:
“We are two completely separate people, on two individual journeys. Choosing to walk our separate journeys together. He happiness is her responsibility, and my happiness is mine. It’s unfair and unrealistic to play the responsibility for your happiness on anybody other than yourself.”
