2017 has been Cardi B’s year but even with the year coming to an end, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper isn’t stopping yet.
After earning a platinum plaque and smashing Billboard records, Cardi B is now teaming up with Steve Madden for her own curated collection of shoes and sunglasses from the brand’s existing line.
While Cardi has previously mentioned Christian Louboutin shoes in her songs, the rapper decided to go with a brand that is affordable to her listeners and a designer who is actually a fan of hers. “She’s really an American success story, which I identify with,” Madden said. “She was a dancer, and has made herself a star, so you have to admire that.”
Discussing the partnership, Cardi revealed to Teen Vogue that she actually wore Steve Madden growing up and detailed how the fashion industry has welcomed her. “It’s been an evolution,” she said. “I have been turned down by Instagram boutiques that told me that ‘I’m not the It girl,’ and I don’t take it personally.”
She added, “It’s just something you’ve got to prove to people, just like music. A lot of music people didn’t want to work with me at first, and you’ve just got to prove yourself. You’ve got to prove that you’re that girl and that you’re worth it. I’m not going to turn down an opportunity because they don’t want to let me in, or they just don’t like me in their clothes, period.”
