Cardi B was recently announced as one of the judges on Netflix’s upcoming hip-hop talent competition series, Rhythm + Flow, drawing a range of reactions from rap fans. In a new Instagram Live broadcast, Cardi hit back at those who said she was unqualified to be a judge because she’s admitted to working with co-writers. The Bronx rapper asserted that she does write a lot of her own music, and said that she has an ear for hit records.
“Everybody be trying to come at my throat because people wanna say that I don’t write a lot of my shit. And I write a lot of my shit. That’s the funny shit,” she said. “I be letting y’all talk because I don’t give a fuck, but a bitch can fucking write. You just gotta sit down and fucking think. What is hard about that?”
She also defended that her judge spot on Rhythm + Flow is deserved. “And a lot of people be like, ‘Oh you don’t deserve to be a judge on Rhythm & Flow,’” Cardi continued. “And I’m like bitch let me tell you something. When these motherfuckers be sending me features, no matter how much money they offer me I say no. Because I know a hit. I know when shit is gonna flop and I know when shit is gonna hit. And clearly you guys see that shit because my shit is on the charts.”
Before closing, Cardi also shut down haters claims which labeled her a “culture vulture” and challenged if she should be allowed in hip hop simply because of her race, stating:
“I’m half hispanic, when you come from where I come from, the music that relates to you the most is hip hop. I don’t feel like people should be telling me that’s not my culture because they feel my race , my nationality, my heritage…what does that have to do with hip hop being my culture? They be trying to act like they so woke and like they’re saying something but what they’re really sounding like is really ignorant and really racist. It’s extremely disgusting to me”
