FACTS OR REACHING?: Ebro Says Nicki Minaj Deserves to Be Honored for “Bringing Women in Rap Back”

Old man Ebro believes Nicki Minaj deserves her flowers.

As the end of the decade approaches, people are beginning to reflect on who have been the true winners since 2010. When a retrospective look is given, the longevity of someone’s impact can be determined. If you think about the 2010’s in hip hop, love her or hate her, Nicki Minaj will likely come to mind. Though her behind the scenes antics over the years have nearly tarnished the self-proclaimed queen’s legacy in many eyes, for nearly a decade Minaj molded and maintained a lane. She undeniably elevated as Young Money’s First Lady and developed a dedicated mass of “Barbz” that will jump at any given opportunity to defend her status.

Amidst these accomplishments, Ebro believes it’s important that Nicki be shown proper respect for one in particular – “bringing women in rap back.” This morning he took to Twitter writing: “As this decade closes can someone put together a real celebration for Nicki Minaj?,” the Hot 97 proclaimed. “She brought women in Rap back!! Lil Wayne gave her the bounce pass & she took off…now look!”.

Nicki would be happy to see Ebro paying this homage, as she has expressed several times in the past that she feels she doesn’t get any credit or respect, despite the fact that it’s never her talent that anyone is questioning. Ebro was once accused of sleeping with Minaj by Remy Ma in her infamous “Shether” record, so some Twitter users used that as fuel against the DJ to dispute his claims on Twitter, while others agreed with his praise of Minaj.

I think it goes without saying that Minaj did bring attention to women in rap at a time where many seemed to have stopped believing in them, her co-sign from Lil Wayne did indeed put her in a position where if properly handled, she could win, which she did. I don’t think that Minaj’s contributions contributed as much to what we’re seeing now with the resurgence of females in hip hop, reason being, Nicki Minaj was in the public eye on her own for nearly a decade and preferred to keep it that way, it took other women challenging that for us to see the industry also believe in other women and show that there could be more than one. Peep some of the reactions to Ebro’s tweet below. Thoughts?
