For me, I didn’t expect a huge opening for Coi, I honestly think this is pretty on par for a number of reasons but we’ll get into that later.
Last week, Coi Leray released her sophomore album ‘COI.’ The album featured David Guetta, Saucy Santana, Lola Brooke, and more. The album was propelled by its lead single “Players” which has been a stable hit since late 2022. The album has taken a beating from music critics who called out its allegedly lazy sampling throughout. Now it seems like fans agree as the album only sold 10k units in its first week.
Last year, her debut album ‘Trendsetter’ sold 11.5k units in its first week and debuted at number 89 on the Billboard 200. Now, despite “Players” being her biggest hit so far Coi Leray has taken a step back. ‘COI’ sold just 10k units in its first tracking week which was only good enough for number 102 on the Billboard 200. Many fans were quick to blame Leray’s label for their lack of promotion more than the album itself. Some on Twitter pointed out opportunities like the recent BET Awards where they could have done more to promote the album.
The sales are surprisingly low given how much momentum Coi Leray seemed to have going into the album with “Players,” but honestly in an era where albums are not selling phenomenally unless you’re a bigger artist, combined with the lack of promotion (I feel like most of the general public didn’t know Coi had an album being released), this is pretty on par with where I expected her to land… with the possibility of maybe seeing more success later.
One person who was apparently very surprised by Coi’s numbers was Boosie Badazz. He took to Twitter to let his feelings be known. “@ coileray_ SHOULD HAVE SOLD AT LEAST 100k the first week,” he stated. “NOBODY RECENT GOT MORE HITS THAN HER either this shit rigged r CELEBRITY KIDS JUST GET HATED ON WHEN ITS TIME TO SWIPE. While Boosie seems to be up in arms, Coi seems to be taking this in good spirits and looking forward with her own tweet, “Grateful to have an album on the top 200 for my first week of my album release, again. This time with 3 hits on the hot 100 … woah 🤯. I’m super proud of myself. Bigger and better year every time. Keep streaming #COI 💘💘💘💘 it’s an AMAZING project !”

Honestly, I like Coi’s perspective. I think she has plenty of room to grow and to pull bigger numbers in the future, there are some artists who can’t even manage to get their albums released. Take a look at it all for yourself and let us know your thoughts?
