ISSA BOP OR ISSA FLOP?: Get Ready to Dance and Learn to Upgrade with Ciara’s Comeback Single “Level Up” (FIRST LISTEN)

Ciara is about to drop her first single since signing with Warner Music Group in January 2017. Her last full-length solo project, Jackie, came out in 2015. This new song, “Level Up,” is likely part of the rollout for her next studio album, which would be the artist’s seventh of the kind. Considering the fact that her efforts, solo or otherwise, haven’t managed much mainstream success since 2016, this next chapter is significant for the RnB singer’s career. But after listening to “Level Up”..we’re pretty sure this is going to do the trick!

Sampling the viral video hit “F*ck it Up Challenge” from a few years back, “Level Up” is an uptempo dance song full of positivity. The track pushes the idea of ignoring the hate and pushing through to heights. The fact that Ciara holds onto the term “level up” is in itself an act of resistance. The first time people noticed her using the term was when she used it in a twitter post that earned her serious backlash. Ciara is clearly set on doing things her way. As reflected in the song’s lyrics, “you can talk all you want.”

Quotable Lyrics – “No loses, just upgrading, My lessons made blessings, I turn that into money”
