HERE FOR IT OR KEEP IT?: Missy Elliott Expresses Interest in Developing an Aaliyah Biopic – “When They Are Ready” (VIDEO)

Missy Elliott would like the opportunity to tell Aaliyah’s story the right way.

Missy Elliott stopped by Sway’s Universe after her recent MTV Vanguard Award win earlier this week. At one point during the interview, the legend revealed her hopes to recreate an Aaliyah biopic with the involvement of the late singer’s family. “When they are ready, I’m quite sure that we’ll do that,” she said.

In 2014, the ever so tragic ‘Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B’ starring Alexandra Shipp aired on Lifetime and received nothing but negative reviews. Aaliyah’s family was not involved in the project and producers reportedly relied on the biography ‘Aaliyah: More than a Woman’ by Christopher John Farley. Zendaya had originally been cast to play the singer but backed out after the family’s public disapproval of the project. Alexandra Shipp took on the role and despite the reviews the biopic became the network it’s highest-rated TV film of that year.

Missy also spoke on wanting to make a biopic of her own life and career as well along with talking about the importance of winning the VMA Vanguard award this year. Watch the full interview below. Would you be here for an Aaliyah biopic with Missy involved?
