We’re all in this together.
In September of last year, the fate of Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V was not looking good. In all likelihood, the project seemed destined to rot in a purgatorial state, doomed to spend eternity as Birdman’s favorite coaster. Now, a little over one year later, Lil Wayne has officially announced a due date: September 28th. For many fans, Carter V became a pipe-dream of sorts, not unlike Dr. Dre’s fabled Detox; we always knew it existed, yet never expected to actually hear it. Yet lo and behold, it’s finally coming, and soon at that.
There are still plenty of questions surrounding the project. For one, did Lil Wayne re-record the album, or keep it as it? Are we about to hear a bunch of references from 2013, in a veritable blast from the past? If not, can we expect Weezy to pick up where Dedication 6 left off? Will the Kendrick Lamar assisted “Mona Lisa” still make the cut? The answers will come in due time. For now, enjoy this moment. Not only is it a massive win for Lil Wayne, who has already done so much for hip-hop, but for the fans as well.
Today, what once seemed impossible has become reality. We’re all in this together. Tha Carter V is coming!
