Is it really a coincidence that there’s been a total 8 Grammy ceremonies since Minaj took her L and yet the year that two other female rappers are nominated in that same category she’s back to kicking and screaming?
It hasn’t been but a few hours since the nominations were announced for the 2021 Grammy Awards and already folks are in their feelings. We’ve seen this song and dance several times before from ‘Chun-Li’ rapper Nicki Minaj where any time other women in the game reach a certain level of accomplishment, Minaj feels the need to insert herself and what she has accomplished (or what she and her fans thinks she should have) in effort to make herself feel better. Case in point, for the Grammy’s rising ladies in the rap game, Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion were announced as contender’s in the coveted Best New Artist category and almost immediately after the announcement Minaj felt the need to remind us how she was “robbed” on the category in 2012.
The rapper has been re-appearing on social media this week, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of her debut studio album Pink Friday and the impact it had when it was released. The album helped Nicki become the artist that she is today and, is often times referred to as a strong debut, however, that isn’t enough for Nicki as wants to remind the world that, when she was up for Best New Artist at the GRAMMY Awards, she lost, and blames it on the racial bias that we have seen time and time again in the industry.
Never forget the Grammys didn’t give me my best new artist award when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on billboard & bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade- went on to inspire a generation. They gave it to the white man Bon Iver. #PinkFriday

“Never forget the Grammys didn’t give me my best new artist award when I had 7 songs simultaneously charting on billboard & bigger first week than any female rapper in the last decade- went on to inspire a generation,” said Nicki on Twitter. “They gave it to the white man Bon Iver. #PinkFriday.”
Now, don’t get me wrong. This isn’t the first time that somebody has complained about a racial bias or a bias of any kind at the GRAMMY Awards. As a matter of fact, we have quite a few stories coming up featuring artists making their own complaints about the ceremony, however, they’re referring to the upcoming ceremony. Nicki is complaining about an award from 8 years ago, granted, she probably was a better candidate than the winner, which not only isn’t the only one she’s lost since, but conveniently, along with the announcement the other women have the opportunity. Oh Nicki, if only you were really as confident as your songs project.
What do you guys think of all this mess? Peep the receipts below:
